Biography

Australian guitarist Mark Evans can be found most weekends playing out as a member of the soul/funk/blues band Safari Motel, who perform regularly around Melbourne. He has been gigging for over 20 years in a variety of bands playing many styles from funk & soul through to rock & extreme metal, and has also toured extensively overseas. 

 

Being influenced by 80’s rock like Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses & Europe to pick up the guitar at the age of 13, he began by learning songs by The Beatles, who he also adored. As he progressed on the instrument he began to appreciate many styles of music from heavy thrash metal like Metallica, Slayer, Kreator and Death to virtuoso guitarists like Santana to Gary Moore to Joe Satriani.  

 

By the age of 16 he co-founded his first band, Alarum who later went on to record 3 albums and tour & perform around Australia as well as the US and Europe. 

 

He has also performed overseas as a live session guitarist with several acts and continues to do session recording work, as well as editing and engineering behind the scenes. 

 

He is an experienced guitar teacher having taught privately and in music schools for over a decade.

 

His most recent band, Safari Motel are currently writing for their debut album.
